Repinique on an old tin can…
Today was interesting. And it wasn’t.
Double PLP was boring as. Once again my teacher got upset at me for not handing in my work experience form and my resumé. How am I meant to hand in my work experience form when my work experience isn’t fully organised yet… (oops)
But dance was good. Did about three or four practices of Extinct, which gave me a good workout. Then in lesson 7 I had music, a.k.a Batucada rehearsal. Phil played the Repinique on a tin can today instead of the actual drum, and after rehearsal told me he is going to leave it in the store room so that I can practise the Repinique part during the week.
That made me happy. lol
I love playing the Middle Surdo. Just not for about seven minutes at a time without a mallet. Kind of killed my left hand for about ten minutes after school, but it’s all good. It was a lot of fun.
Axé people!

Sunshine and Logo’s
The sun has come out! Yay! Hopefully this will mean that the ground will be dry for Capoeira.
Axé

P.s. Either number 4 or 5 is fine with me. They are both awesome!

Samba whistles and the C major scale
Is it possible? Could I range the pitch enough to complete one octave of the C major scale? I’d love to find out. Because that would be pretty awesome.
Well, I had a rehearsal for school Batucada today, and Phil brought in his Repinique so that the group could hear what it sounds like. Then he asked me my name and then he told the group about my participation in Capoeira and the Batucada workshop that He did with us Soul Capoeiristas. Then he told the group that I had played the Repinique before and that I would be leading them in some future performances. That was a little bit embarrassing, because everyone kind of stared at me after that. So I ended up playing the Middle Surdo with a serious face, for fear that I would start to laugh. Afterwards, I carried two of the drums back to the store room and put them away in their places like I always do.
But I’m really excited, that I’m performing twice in week five, once at the international assembly and once at the Norwood town hall 30th May.
Axé Capoeiristas!

Batucada & Capoeira
Just had the last Batucada session on Saturday. And I am heaps excited for the upcoming performances! One at school for the international assembly and one with Soul Batucada.
However, I am apparently leading the school Batucada at future performances. Scary, ‘cos that means one thing: whole school assembly. However, I was asked to do it, and seeing as I have done it before and no one else in school Batucada has: I guess I’m probably the best candidate. Plus, there is only a few things I need to see again. Everything else I remember.
Capoeira is awesome as well! While I would love to do more than one class per week, the Saturday Capoeira sessions in the park are really good as well. It’s a chance for me to work on things I learn in class.
Axé everyone!
Colette
